Registering a Domain Name
Chapter 02 – Domain Names
The very first step in building your website is to register a domain name. A domain name is simply the technical term for the address of a particular website on the Internet; the domain name tells your browser where to access the web page you want to see.
For example, google.com and incomepassport.com are both “dot com” domains.
Domain names disappear extremely quickly. Many people claim that all the good one have already been registered. That is not necessarily the case; remember, if you don’t renew a domain, it expires and is made available again, so every day there are good domains re-entering the market. But that said, if you find a domain name that you like, it’s best to register it immediately, or face the anguish of losing it later. After all, US$10 (more or less) for a year’s ownership of the domain name is relatively cheap when you realize that you’re cornering a great name for your website.
