Manual Installation

This lesson is included for your reference. With the right web host, you can install Wordpress quite literally with one click! However, should you ever require a manual install, simply follow these instructions.

Installing WordPress

In the past (up until 2010), installing Wordpress was a little tricky. It involved uploading files, building databases and running an installation script. These days, however, it's a piece of cake!

Your First Post

Now that all the technical configuration and setup items are out of the way, you can finally get down to some web page building!

MySQL Database

In the past, you would have had to set up a database before installing Wordpress. These days, your database is set up for you automatically, but it is still worth knowing how everything works.

WordPress Setup & Configuration

Wordpress, your Content Management System, should now be installed. In this lesson, you are going to completely customize your new website, and by the time we finish, you won't even recognize it.

File Transfer Protocol

To upload files to your hosting account, you will need to install an FTP client on your home computer.

Welcome to WordPress!

By now, you would have done most of the preparation needed to start building your new website. We are finally getting to the exciting part! Your website is about to start taking shape.

Domain Mapping

A domain may only point to a web host’s name servers, which may be responsible for thousands of different websites. This step maps the domain to the folder on the web host where you will be hosting the website files.

Delegating a Domain

By now, you should have registered a domain name and purchased a hosting account. The next step is to connect the two. In this lesson, you will learn how to point your domain at your hosting account.

Hosting Your Website

To build any website on the Internet, you need two things: a domain name and a hosting account. A domain name is effectively just a sign post pointing to the location of your web hosting account, which is where your website is located.
